Lagos Wastewater Management Office, Nigeria - Technical Assistance for Sanitation Development

festac dsc00438

Sanitation coverage in Nigeria was one of the lowest in the world due to insufficient investment planning. Coverage stood at 40% in 2010 with limited piped sewerage. To address the shortfall and comply with the Millennium Development Goal conditions, the Lagos State Government embarked on the rehabilitation of some of its existing wastewater treatment facilities and increase of household connections. VBTM provided technical assistance to senior management in the state water agency to review one of the existing facilities and identify the plant and equipment required for its successful rehabilitation. The associated wastewater collection networks and pumping stations were also included in the scheme. Proposals for further studies have been submitted and the scheme is ongoing.
